For a long time sometimes my desktop freezes suddenly and it took me a
long time to find when. It turns out sometimes the desktop freezes when
I move a window fast from one desktop to another, normally I would move
it to the right.
OS is Ubuntu 18.04 and the issue occurs (as
Rico, as we said in the original comment, that patch is no longer
necessary.
The original issue that caused that to be necessary is now fixed
(https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1623597).
Distribution engines are now loaded first, marked as builtin/app-

I am also facing the same issue.
Currently using Kubuntu 20.04LTS
When I connect VGA monitor in Windows it works perfectly, but when I
connect it to Ubuntu it only shows the output on VGA display and the
LVDS turns black. If I connect a monitor via HDMI it works perfectly in
Ubuntu.
Any solution
On starting the program, it appears
~/.local/share/qpdfview/qpdfview/database
is accessed as the file date/time stamp reflects this.
I then let it sit idle (~two mins, or clock minute has incremented
twice) before I start creating bookmarks, the timestamp doesn't alter
reflecting on program start
That is a very good observation about not having to be on startup!!
After I disabled both vmware.service and virtualbox.service, I cleaned-up:
delete the '/root' and then make sure to mount it from the zfs dataset.
Then I shutdown the system yesterday evening (2020-06-25).

The attached photo has memory utilization data on the Nivida GPU on
typical use. I'll try to figure out how to force the problem on demand.
I believe its related to an application I'm using, however the problem
has not returned and I've updated the driver a few times already.

After upgrading 18.04 LTS to 20.04 LTS X started to freeze at the login
when using NVIDIA's driver 440.82 or 440.100.
When investigating log files, the following was found in Xorg.0.log:
"(EE) NVIDIA(GPU-0): Failed to acquire modesetting permission."

drivers-340/+bug/1876551 about nvidia-340 drivers having the same
problem (won't remember the config).
My workaround is a .desktop file that calls xrandr with my desired
parameters I configured with nvidia tool and then dumpe
Thanks for pointing that out. That sounds relevant to bug 1885026 and
this one...
In the case of this bug it explains why the fractional scaling value is
not persisted -- because the virtual monitor resolution has changed.

Alright, I built 5.8-rc2 with you patch v2. Then tried resuming in 3
