Public bug reported:
After installation, the Python source files in /usr/share/GvRng aren't
byte-compiled. Unless an administrator runs a tool like pycompile
manually, ordinary users won't be able to benefit from byte-compilation
of the GvR source code since they can't create .pyc files in that

This can be fixed simply by setting execute permissions on
/usr/share/GvRng/gvrng.py.
A quick workaround for users of the current broken package is to run the
following command as root:
dpkg-statoverride --update --add root root 755 /usr/share/GvRng/gvrng.py

I have installed linux-image-3.0.0-17-virtual 3.0.0-17.30 on my ltsp2
VM. The xen-kbdfront module is present and I didn't have to install a
corresponding version of linux-image-extra-virtual. The kernel boots
successfully, the module loads, and VNC keyboard input works. Looks good
to me.

I'm experiencing this bug with a new installation of Edubuntu 11.10 (in
a Xen domU under Debian squeeze amd64). It makes iTalc completely
unusable. I can also reproduce this bug with the latest Edubuntu 11.10
live CD booting on a Xen HVM domU under Debian squeeze amd64. GDB stack
trace attached. HV

I have now installed linux-image-extra-virtual and I confirm that xen-
kbdfront is present and working. Thanks for the clarification.
I think that it's a bad packaging choice to have xen-kbdfront relegated
to an "extra" package for a kernel that's supposed to be specifically
tailored for use on vi
