Well, something has changed. The X terminal is back on F7; but still not working right. I restarted and cycled through the Ctrl-Alt-Fx combinations: F1-F6 -> tty1-tty6 F7 -> blank screen F8 -> boot messages F9-F12 -> blank screen I went back to F7 and Ctrl-Alt-Backspace to restart X: worked. Howe
