By removing the call to phpinfo(), I could get back to zero errors with the package in -proposed (and a few thousand with the package in the release pocket), meaning the observed noise was indeed unrelated to this bug/fix. This is ApacheBench, Version 2.3 <$Revision: 1903618 $>
