I've spent a day trying to figure out why my VMs were not working until
I found this report.
TLDR: Windows Sandbox in itself does not break the virtualization for
Virtualbox, what does is the Virtual Machine Platform (on which I guess
Windows Sandbox depends on).
I'll try to gather everything I

Lately I have not experienced with it, because I'm using Arch Linux.

You're right, my fonts setting in the accessibility options was set to
small. I set it back to normal and the cursor rendered correctly (I had to
restart unity though). Also Bug
862279https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/862279seems to be caused by this.

Thanks Jason, after that comment I've tried to narrow the cause of the
problem and have boiled it down to $HOME/.drirc which I have created
with driconf at some point in time. Removing it fixes this bug for me on
my system running on GMA-950 with the open source intel video driver.
