Nagstamon (http://nagstamon.ifw-dresden.de/) is also affected.
Workaround for me is to use it in hovering mode.

I have the same bug. I can confirm that the 3.9 RC 7 kernel downloaded
from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.9-rc7-raring/ does
fix the bug. Using this kernel now and HDMI audio works as before.
# uname -a
Linux universe 3.9.0-030900rc7-generic #201304171402 SMP Wed Apr 17 18:04:2
If nothing loaded, it may have been caused by your user not having proper
permissions on the new home directory. If you created it using root, this
may be the case. I'd suggest you try it again:
log out of gnome
switch to console
mv /home/ /home/.old
mkdir /home//
cp -pr /etc/skel /home//
chown -R
For me what helped was to re-create my home directory. Unfortunately I don't
know specific files or directories that need to be removed for unity to
start working. I suggest you back up your home folder, create an empty
directory instead of it, copy files from /etc/skel to your new home
directory,
Cleaning those files were not enough for me, but creating a new home
folder fixed it. Probably some leftover configuration was causing the
issue, though I'm not sure whic one. Thanks for the info!

Thanks for the info Jussier, I'll try it too once I'm home, and get back

Any update on this? By the question regarding the guest login I
suspected that you may have a lead on what is causing this. If I can
give you any information about the system I use, please ask.
Thanks!

Hi,
I can say the same thing. Also using 3.8.4 (as seen below), however the
issue is still there.
unity 3.8.4-0ubuntu1
unity-asset-pool 0.8.18-0ubuntu2
unity-common 3.8.4-0ubuntu1
unity-place-applications 0.2.44-0ubuntu1
unity-place-files 0.5.46-0ubuntu2
If I switch to guest account, unity works
I have just the same issue with Unity (3d). My video card is an Intel GMA 945,
and compiz itself, without the unity plugin works just fine.
I can provide more details if needed.
