Well, the pulseaudio issue is not relevant for the Amarok problems. The
Amarok bug manifests itself whenever the sound hardware becomes
unavailable, no matter why.
In this case it was triggered by a pulseaudio problem, but that's not
relevant. It's Amarok's behavior that blocks the computer.

I could never get compiz or beryl to work correctly on this machine,
though using some other repositories I could in the past at least get
them to work slowly (and very unstably).

OK, I digged a bit more and I found out how thumbnails get generated.
The thumbnailer registered for the files (or at least some that I tried)
is /usr/bin/gnome-video-thumbnailer -s %s %u %o, which looks OK. I
tried running it by hand with
/usr/bin/gnome-video-thumbnailer -s 128
Yes, it's using Sun Java. I didn't try your fix yet, but the reason I
use Sun's Java is that I was getting the same (or a very similar) type
of crash using GCJ.
For now I've been able to fix it by deleting the logs, but if it happens
again I might try the GCJ thing, to see how it works. It's not

OK, I'm having similar issues here, but I can't tell if it's exactly the
same bug. Azureus (2.5.0.0 on Ubuntu Feisty) worked for a bit after the
install, then (I suppose it was force-closed by a log-out) it stopped
starting. The main window would appear for a bit and then it just died.

I have a Dell Latitude D620 laptop which has a 1280x800 widescreen LCD.
The video board is what the device manager calls a Mobile
945GM/GMS/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller.
I like to keep the display configured to NOT stretch
I just tried re-deactivating the LCD expansion in the BIOS and it stays
that OK, which is OK. I was under the wrong impression that it got
activated each time the system booted.
Still, it would be nice if it wasn't changed on installation.

I started an upgrade this morning and update manager failed with the
could not calculate the upgrade error.
It asked me to report the bug, so here I am. I'm not sure it's really a
bug, because my repositories list has some fishy entries,
It also asked me to attach the files from /var/log/dist-upgrade/ so I
did. There was also a term.log empty file.
