I can reproduce this. My windows 7 VM will only boot to where it says
"Starting Windows". The animation that usually appears above it does not
and one of the two VCPUs pegs out.
If I set my emulator in the XML configuration to a shell script of:

Then the VM sta

Upstream patch [1] was checked into source control [2] in 72dc6d +
0a31be + 37ede4, which are in libvirt v0.6.4. Current version of libvirt
in karmic is 0.6.4-1ubuntu2, so this bug should not be present in
karmic.

Upstream patch [1] works against 0.6.1-0ubuntu5 on jaunty.
I'm attaching this patch converted to quilt sans the test code, it
applies fine as the last in the series.
Testers should grab libvirt=0.6.1-0ubuntu6~btm2 from my ppa [2].

I'm marking this a duplicate of bug #346912, there's much more developer

Found a workaround/fix that's more user friendly:
sudo apt-get install tracker-utils
tracker-processes -r # --hard-reset
Then I logged out and back in so the processes that I had previously
killed by hand would restart in a normal fashion.

The patch cited wasn't upstream until kvm-75. Hardy had kvm-62, which
should [1] have virtio support. I didn't switch to virtio until intrepid
myself, I can't comment on if it's reproducible there. As important as
being able to soft reboot your guests is, you can workaround this with a
forced power

While letting the tracker run after choosing 'Reindex all contents' the
machine was relatively unusable. Firefox would gray out every couple of
minutes, the mouse pointer was lagging. After letting the tracker run
for a couple of hours, I came back to even my shell being grayed out and
'dbus-daemon
At some point the tracker was using a high amount of CPU. I killed one
of the processes at the time.
Next time I logged in and it started, I got the message:

There was an error while performing indexing:
Index corrupted"
Hitting "OK" or "Cancel" or "Reindex all contents" brings the box
