Unfortunately, I can't be of much help. I don't use mplayer these days,
I prefer smplayer or xine-ui. If I start using mplayer once again and
encounter this problem, I'll give you more info.

Yeah...
But it could be also a problem related to my system settings, as well. I
removed the scim library, kdeedu programs and did an apt-get autoremove.
The system works fine now.

Gaming/Video instability in Hardy (x freezes), starting after 8.04-rc and
before 8.04.0 [946GZ]
Hmmm... there are a lot of things that go wrong.
1. The new kickoff menu. The search function causes the whole desktop to
crash
2. Some applications fail to start - Kopete for example.
3. Speed! Speed speed!
I need to switch back to KDE... wait, because I noted a problematic
process.

Hmmm... Take a look of this file...
It shows all of my processes running. So... we have a problematic one.
At first I thought we have a bug in the xorg-intel package, but I
realised that it cannot be the case, because GNOME works fine.

Dear Mr. Drewniak,
After extensive testing me and another fellow came to the conclusion
that this is more like a global bug that affects a lot of games.
Probably it is related to the Intel driver for Ubuntu Linux v 8.04 -

Strange! That workaround in bug 140619 worked for me very well and not only it
fixed OpenOffice, bit it fixed also another bug related to Gnome Terminal.
I'll continue testing Gutsy for other bugs.
