I have an identical issue. Seagate FreeAgent 320GB.
Can confirm that the commands
echo 1024 /sys/block/sdb/device/max_sectors
echo 1 /sys/class/scsi_disk/X:0:0:0/allow_restart
work for me. (replacing X with 6 in my case).
Thanks for the temp fix. Let's hope that the kernel team fixes this.

I can confirm this issue over WWW and LAN.
I have 2 SSH servers, one here, one elsewhere, and it typically takes 5
minutes to log in to remote SSH, and 2 for the local one.
Turned off GSSAPIAuthentication and voila, 5 seconds to log in to remote
server, 2 for local one.
Please fix.

This causes problems on hibernation, when the system hibernates but does
not come back out of hibernation, rather it does a clean boot.
Fix is to automatically add
Just updated to 0.6.4-ubuntu5, same problem exists!

Here are the instructions I followed (From 105243):
I had the same problem and this is how I fixed it:
* shutdown NetworkManager, e.g. with 'sudo
Unfortunately I now have a new issue.
It now is exactly the opposite problem to this bug, my network-manager
won't show DISCONNECTED.
If I unplug my eth2, nm-applet shows the connection as still established

However, the Network Monitor
Seems to be OK now (20070410 0921)
Don't know why it failed last time.
Odd.
