Well Kevin, for me just disabling the system sounds does the work, no need to disable ESD. I am not sure if the library I mentioned I installed is also needed for the partial workaround. Because I don't think disabling system sounds could be called a solution. Regards, Cedric. -- Frozen Bubb

I could get sound from application running from menu item after installing package libsdl1.2debian-all $ sudo apt-get install libsdl1.2debian-all However the music breaks a little bit. So still better to run game from terminal. If someone found a definite solution please update. Regards, Cedric.

Same issue here with ubuntu 8.04 and frozen bubble. I can start the game with sound from a terminal, but no luck yet from menu item. Dick, I haven't installed Alien Arena so I don't know the exact name of the command. You can check for such this way: right click on applications > edit menus > game
