This happened for me running a custom Eclipse Plug-in. The issue was
referenced in some other locations as having been a problem in the past.
This issue happened to me on Hardy, but I had not seen it on Gutsy.
I believe that I booted from an older livecd that did work, then I mounted
my hard disk in that running instance and used chroot to go into the hard
disk filesystem and ran apt-get from there.
Something like this:
mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/mydrive
cp /etc/resolv.conf /mnt/mydrive/etc/resolv.conf
chroot
Nevermind about the BIOS. I checked and there are no options remotely
related to any of this. Sony went all out and lets me set the time,
date, startup animation preferences, boot order, and passwords. That is
all. It's the smallest BIOS options list I have ever seen.
