reboot box & attempted again
testcase: custom, manual with separate /home
partitions were already (mostly) created last attempt;
the /home/ (sda5) is unknown; I selected to delete that and create (format) as
ext4
the / partition didn't exist; I created a ext4 partitioning using that space.

In "Manual Partitioning" I shrank last (largest) partition & made new
extend partition which contains / & /home.
The disk is small on this box;
I've changed this to incomplete.
We can't really do much until fields have been filled out with more
details, ie. the apport-collect is performed on the box in question.
If you believe I'm in error, please leave a comment explaining why, and
the status can be returned to "New".

Lubuntu impish daily failed with this issue
~/.cache/calamares/session.log highlights
"Command: sfdisk --force --append /dev/sda"
Last install worked perfectly - it was a XFS format.
This install failed; it was BTRFS
(I alternate between XFS, BTRFS & use reiserfs if manually prepared to

I couldn't get control of box... even unable to SysRq reboot (power
button was used)
thus no useful calamares report sorry.
(my ubuntu-bug or apport-collect concern seems to be moot though.)
