This bug happened on my upgrade to lucid lynx. It started by opening a
dialog telling me that the modules I had selected for likewise-open were
not compatible with each other, but did not give me the chance to change
them (libpam, something, something, something, etc.). I hit the forward
button,

This bug should now be considered a duplicate of bug # 103375. Based on
that bug, I found a VERY simple workaround:
sudo apt-get purge mouseemu
Removing mouseemu fixed the problem without even restarting X

I'm not sure when it is happening. It is not while I am at my laptop.
I come back, and it is already there when I log in. If I can reproduce
it reliably, I will write a test script for reproducing it.

FYI, I upgraded by laptop to the current Intrepid Ibex 8.10 Alpha

selected the 2.6.27 kernel (currently 2.6.27-2).

I had both b43 and ndiswrapper loading (accidentally) after my upgrade

launchpad systems). Crash occurred shortly after running modprobe -r

Thanks for the update, Sebastien. I forgot that there was a point

Here is a workaround which I believe is Ubuntu and Debian compliant. It

upstart instead if initd):
Step 0) Prep:

I have found only two things that work correctly for my BCM4311/12 (rev

second is the wireless-compat-2.6.26 patch.

Thanks guys. It's great to know that this patch will be in this

you probably have two problems:
1) the bcm43xx kernel module isn't worth it's weight in poop, but the newer b43
and b43legacy kernel modules are.
2) b43 and b43legacy are dependent on the kernel module ssb, which is
completely broken in linux kernel 2.6.24 (this is a known problem). Since
ssb.ko does NOT load in linux kernel 2.6.24. This is pretty well
documented. See http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-661622-view-
next.html?sid=edc3489ee46054163e178ad2b850148a . There are a lot of
helpful links and documentation there. This page confirms the need for
a patch on 2.6.24, and
