I installed my system from scratch a few months ago with Saucy. I applied
updates as they came
I have also experienced this bug upgrading to Kubuntu 14.04 from the release
upgrader (wish now I hadn't).
I have a 64GB SSD with /boot as /dev/sda1 and / on an LVM LV on the SSD.
/home is then on a 300GB SATA drive. It is possible that there was a
grub installation on this drive previously.

was slow to boot). Have a Dell D410 so used the i386 kernel. Cold
rebooted 3 times, still no improvement.

#32 has worked for me for about 4 boots (previous record was 9/10 boots
would fail to load). Will report if it fails.
This is a major problem for anyone with this chipset. The failure causes
X.org to use 100% CPU - seems to be worst in Mozilla apps (Firefox and
Thunderbird).

This is a grub bug, I believe. I have installed Ibex AMD64 Alternate on
a Dell Optiplex 320 here. The installation was fine. When I reboot, it
hangs. I assumed at first it was a wonky ACPI implementation and tried
various versions of pci=bios pci=nomsi noapic apm=off acpi=off I was
getting NO outpu
I'm still having the problem on Ubuntu 8.10.

it's this one Ubuntu is on. The other disk is detected by Feisty (in rescue
mode off the the Beta CD) but the IDE drive with the converter
