Hi and sorry for not changing the status of this bug earlier... I didn't know I could/should do it! :-/ This issue has been solved in Ubuntu 10.10 as far as I can see. Ubuntu 10.10 is using ProFTPD version 1.3.2e and it works perfectly! Thanks for all the input and help that has been given by so

Ahh, there it is... I knew I had read it before, but couldn't find it when I was to report this problem. Thanks Laryllan! Lots of information there... possible solutions seems to be: upgrading proftpd, upgrading openssl or even downgrading proftpd. I have now temporarily sidestepped this problem
