I'm adding this from the installation disk - I have not yet rebooted.
VERY long wait at 85% complete on the installation, finally completed,
but the crash report symbol appeared in the upper tray (next to the
clock, etc.). Apport claimed that this was a duplicate bug but
suggested I add anything
Dell Mini 9 - Developer's daily Desktop i386 (as of Sunday, October 4,
2009 at about 6:00PM MST (UTC-7). Install from USB key, manual
partition (Installation complete, successfully). Boot and login
successful. Wireless not active.
Hardware Drivers offered - Proprietary bc STA driver is the only

Oh, and BTW, considering the extreme lack of knowledge/experience I have
with shell commands, I had no idea that it was NOT a bash command.

Daniel, Thank you for your suggestion. There is only one sound card in
this computer. as for the bash script, I downloaded it and ran it as
suggested, and the end result of what I got was:

upgraded both equipment and distribution. I am currently running a Dell
Inspiron 530N that came with Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Faun) 32 bit installed. That
has since been upgraded to Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibb
Followup report: I am not a programmer, but I ran valgrind on
powertweakd (report attached) and found it interesting that several CRC
checks failed. I hope this will help.

That sounds like a reasonable solution to me. It would certainly end
the current problem. I'm not against CLI, though I prefer not to use
it. And being forced to use it and alter system files can be scary,
without knowledge and experience behind it. It's too bad that Gutsy
can't be mod

problem, if it's been tagged wrong. Yes, I understand that the problem
could be hard if it were handled solely by a program. But an
interaction between a program and a user might be possible, similar to
the way the manual pa
iscovered the above long list of bugs, comments, and possible
solutions. I respectfully request that this situation be addressed and
corrected. It's gone on way too long.

This appears to have gone through at least 3 updates (number unconfirmed, due
to not always booting to the Gutsy partition).

Secondary report:
Gutsy Tribe 5 reinstalled September 14/15, 2007. 396 updates immediately after
installation. Nvidia card GeForce 7300 LE, with 512 MB memory (see above). On
startup, after logging in, screen goes black with just a white cursor/arrow
(movable). This computer had been reboote

After 2 or 3 startups of Gutsy Gibbon Tribe 5 a startup resulted in what
was apparently a black screen. Moving the mouse and impacting the side
of the screen showed that the cube was there and would rotate, but
nothing showed on the cube.
This is on a Dell Inspiron 530N with
Same situation - Gutsy Tribe 5 on a Dell Inspiron 530N (Dell desktop
with Ubuntu factory installed). Shutdown freezes the screen, but not
the mouse (mouse still moves). Requires a hard crash to end a session.
