Confirmed here. I have the same problem for x86_64 karmic. I have a
separate raid1 that isn't even in / and it just hangs when grub starts
to load. Someone needs to mark this as high importance, because it is a
show stopper.

I have the same problem. After much tinkering, I found out that running
a inferior resolution than that of the desktop, I can run full screen
until the screen-saver tries to come on, then the game goes windowed.

I have the same problem. I have reinstalled 8.10 i386 alternate twice
now and metacity crashes on startup. I've noticed different reports of
this same problem, and this might be a duplicate of another but I'm not
sure. This bug breaks functionality because I have no window borders on
boot, and
BTW, It is the amd_64 alternate disc. I haven't tried to replicate with
the i386 yet.

Same problem in 8.10 RC1. I am using the alternate install disk, and no
matter if I use guided or manual partition, the partitioner immediately
goes to about 33% and hangs. I have tried a variety of different
things: switching hard drives, cd drives, burning a new install disk and
