I have been suffering from this bug since upgrading to Karmic (Ubuntu),
however, I have narrowed down the problem (I think).
The problem doesn't affect Opera and that puzzled me a little - but it
all makes sense now: Opera has it's own Flash-plugin installed. It uses

Yesterday, I was suggested to try and change the wireless channel on my
router by user u20 and strangely, this seemed to have an effect - for
a while! But it didn't resolve the issue! It simply reset the connection
upon reconnecting with my router! Exactly 30 minutes
I am seeing this bug and has been fighting it ever since upgrading to
Jaunty. I am now running latest Karmic alpha release with newest updates
and the problem persists.
It seems that the problem is most pronounced during high load on the
network (i.e. during downloading or flash video streaming),
Sorry for spamming, but just wanted to confirm: The connection
disappears with exactly 30 minutes intervals! Followed about 40 seconds
later by the afforementioned message. Might be a coincidence, but seems
a little strange!

So, just to confirm that this bug is still around. I get sound, but it
lags. It's not so bad that sound becomes incomprehensible, but it's bad
enough to be annoying! I'm using the intel hda driver with Alsa and I to

file (seems a bit blunt to just remove the entire file) I just opened
the backgrounds.xml and removed all entries with the wallpaper

I am having this issue too in Jaunty (9.04) and have been seeing it
since 8.04, so it obviously haven't been fixed! My screen is a 1280x800
screen (laptop) but there is no option for that resolution in StartUp-
manager. I then tried forcing the resolution by manually altering the
/etc/usplash.conf
Okay, so I still have the issue at startup with gnome-wm disabled and
compiz set to start in sessions. But only at initial startup. If i do a
Ctrl+Alt+Backspace and then login, the system is ready in 8-10 secs. So
I've been going through even more logfiles and once again, it looks like

I am not sure if this is a duplicate, but I'm definitely not the only
one experiencing this issue. After doing an update to Intrepid from
Hardy, I am experiencing a pause of about 20 seconds from when I enter
my login until I see my wallpaper and the welcome-tune plays and
I am not sure this is the same bug, but after login, I get a pause of
about 20 seconds before the background image loads and then another 5
secs before the welcome sound comes. In the deamon.log, it seems to
return the same gnome.wm failed to return before timeout error as
others have been
