Help. I am having this exact same issue as well. I am using 12.04 with
all updates to today, but no joy. Can anybody tell me what I can do to
make this work again? Is there a patch which actually works? Can I use
older code or code from another source which still has Swap Axes
working.

On my network I have mirrored all the Ubuntu repos on one server. All
the workstations on the network access it via NFS mounts.
When trying to modify a recently installed workstation to also act as a
LTSP server ltsp-build-client
I figured the problem with my long list might be the lack of mount
points, but I was unsure because even when I exclude the /mnt directory
from the squashfs, I still end up having one in the final client file
system.

the network I get the following error message on the command line:

The short comings of network manager could easily be overcome if the
applications that use it could be configured to ignore it.
Firefox should have a switch in about:config so that it can always start
online.

to kill it because it takes 95% of my cpu.

includes the firefox issue with it always starting in offline mode. I'm
sure I don't get the connection, but there it is.

2.6.24-15 causes firefox to misbehave this way as well as killing my
sound drivers and HAL. When I reboot under 2.6.24-14 everything works
great. I think this latest kernel is really really buggy.

I found this kernel does a lot of damage.
1) firefox always starts in offline mode
2) hal stop working
3) sound drivers crash.
4) system takes 6 years to finish booting
I've gone back to 2.6.24-14 for now.

I applied this fix and it is way better
