BIOS reports the available codec slots wrongly, the driver gets
confused and tries to access t
Those apps both use libasound/ALSA output as default (which then gets
routed to pulseaudio server via asound-pulse plugin).
Please install the 'vlc-plugin-pulse' package with the following command:
sudo apt-get install vlc-plugin-pulse
Then, start VLC with this command:
vlc --aout pulse

programs that produce audio?
If the issue is only with banshee, please change the package from alsa-driver
to banshee, start banshee in the terminalwith the --debug option and reproduce
