Well, perhaps it has been fixed in that newer version. While it no longer
matters to me, because the only time it caused a problem was when I was running
Wine, and Photofiltre under Wine required it for some functions. But I do
believe that other folks could have a problem with it.

The only explanation I can offer is that I am running 10.04.1 with the proposed
updates enabled. I have reproduced the condition this morning, and it is

Hello Micah, Well, I created a new "blank" profile. Using that profile

The update which appeared today for the "20" kernel (PROPOSED) appear to
have fixed this problem. I have unlocked the earlier version of grub-
common and allowed the update to the latest version, and the shift key
now works as it should to enter the grub menu.

Karmic with all latest updates, and repo's set to all the "proposed" updates as
well. This loaded the kernel subversion "20". Found that the shift key no
longer entered the grub menu at boot time. Narrowed problem to grub-common,

I believe if the box in Preferences->Mouse->General has the box checked to
"show position of pointer", the key is absorbed, and not passed through
for further processing. Some apps need to see this CTRL function when you are
NOT looking for the pointer position..

Hi Alex, well the plot thickens. I tried it on my desktop which is also
running 910 on a Intel Pentium IV. It also places the cursor correctly,
so this seems peculiar to my machine or processor. I do not have a clue
where this is leading, but I'm willing to try anything you can suggest.

Hi Alex, I had no idea that it would be different under different
systems, but yes, it is consistent and reproducible. I admit I can't
imagine what would make that kind of difference. If it helps any, the
laptop is an Acer 5570Z, with a dual core T2080. If I can furnish any
