I asked a Linux expert to help me on this. The following are the steps
I followed.
After checking many files, running some programs, he identified that the
problem was caused by the line/s above:
update-alternatives: error: no alternatives for iceape-flashplugin.
He then asked me to edit

reasonably happy with the stability of 10.10. However, when the message
came that updates were no longer supported, I decided to upgrade,
progressively, through 11.04, 11.10 12.04.

On subsequent boots, I still get status 256. It's only on the FIRST

By the way, is gconf.xml.defaults supposed to be a folder?
Going back to Sebastien Bacher's comment in #3. I have run the live CD
on 2 other PCs (currently with Myth 9.10 installed) they didn't
exhibit any issues. Perhaps
(fsck), the system wouldn't mount (?) it, so I couldn't
restore the back-up of the file I changed.

One of my sons is a long-time user of Unix Ubuntu. He upgraded to
10.04, a few weeks after it became available.
He has not had any problem with his printer (or other services).
However, his printer is set-up on his network (i.e. connected to his

I upgraded to Mythbuntu 9.10 from 9.04 on 07/02/2010. It all went well,
except for the non auto-login (easily fixed) the non-autostart of Myth
frontend. I changed autostart, but then had the problem of myth
frontend starting too fast, as described here.

I am not certain, but it sounds as though this bug could be the fault
that I am having (I don't understand the technical problem description).
I have been using 9.04 (Jaunty) since May (with all updates), but I
hadn't used the recurrence feature of the Calendar function in 9.04
until yesterday.
I upgraded from Ubuntu 8.10 to 9.04, in mid-May, but had been using a
wired connection.
On 24/06/2009, I tried to install a wireless network adapter. I
followed the comments in the compatible hardware guide, downloaded
ndiswrapper. I noticed that ndisgtk existed, so I downloaded that as

I upgraded to 9.04 from 8.10 on 30/05/09; I waited until then, as I had
the idea that any bugs would have been fixed...
I followed the steps as mentioned by LeeWells, but I had the same result
as kit. So I uninstalled pulseaudio, Myth seems OK now.
