I tested vsftpd on a 32-bit kernel (3.11.0-19-generic) but when I
install it on a 64-bit kernel and upgrade to the current kernel version
it fails to start with. Running by hand give the error oops 500 munmap

The new description is not completely correct. While you can change
accels using this method you cannot set the accel to a non-control key.
In the past you could set the accel for next message to "n" and previous
message to "p" and delete message to "d" so that you didn't need to hold

shortcuts by editing the evolution-mail-message.xml file. This file does
not exist and the keyboard accel mappings do not seem to be available in
any file.

I do think that it is 'getty' that is clearing the screen. I put some
'echo' comments in /etc/init/tty1.conf and what is echo'd right before
getty is started is on the boot screen and the next thing the screen is
cleared and the information in /et

I'm not sure this belongs in plymouth since it is a "problem" with
getty.
When getty is run it automatically clears the screen. This is no way to
