Adding "radeon.audio=1" to grub config does enable the open source
Radeon video video card HDMI audio driver. Mysteriously, this does
distort my 1280X720 and other resolutions somewhat, though--taskbar and
some icons
I Just downloaded newest version of memtest86+ available (4.20--uploaded
at 01/25/2011) from memtest.org. I then extracted the ISO from a .gz
archive with Archive Manager, and burned the ISO to DVD as an image with
xfburn. (I couldn't find a handy CD--extracted ISO after download is a
mere 1MB+.) T
No change. Even took out CMOS battery. Still can't test mem. I got a new
"Triple-core" CPU yesterday; I want to put that in, also.
I've heard that a newer version of memtest86+ is available. Shall try
downloading ISO and burning...shall investigate that first.

Xubuntu 12.10 similar error. Popped up recently--I've been having
problems with memory and paging, so I ran memtest86+ from menu. My
optical drives weren't detected--system kept polling them till they
weren't. Rabbit TV required much memory--deep paging using WinXP.

Thanks, Bryce! I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 for everything now. It's more
compatible than 8.10, and, especially, 9.04 (a disappointment). It's OK
to close this bug report--I've moved "onward and upward." (Hardware
improvements necessitate OS upgrades. I really prefer the newest
upgrades--given that drive
I've found also that using bios "optimized defaults" (and then changing
to boot from cdrom) often helps with such video driver issues upon
installing ubuntu/kubuntu, both for nVidia and ATi cards. At least, I
have clear enough video to install files on some systems--and, without
freezing on others.
Thanks a lot Bryce! My PnP Rosewill monitor hasn't yet been
detected--always have to auto-adjust. I need the better driver to which
