Same problem here, ubuntu 10.04 installed from scratch, I've been able
to update facebook status after first boot. Then I have installed some
programs (sorry don't remember which ones) configured twitter (first
time with a wrong pwd), edited the account (with the right pwd) and
rebooted.

Hi, some useful hints: on my system, with intel g3100, the screen goes totaly
black if I have firefox open, otherwise it dims and can be restored with the
xgamma trick.
Investigating if other apps makes the system unrecoverable

On X start window decorator is not started. I have to enable advanced video
settings to have it run, but that setting is not saved, so on next reboot my
settings are none again and decorator not start.

I have encountered similar issues when compiling the boost libraries
(1.42). Both gcc-4.4 and gcc-4.3 have similar behaviours, crashing

I found the problem: no swt,jar exists anymore.
So i manually simlink swt-gtk-3.5.1.jar to swt,jar, that is:
/usr/share/java# ln -s swt-gtk-3.5.1.jar swt.jar
and then it works again.
Note if from synaptic I reinstall all the swt package then the symlink
is created.
So the bug in not in
I just upgrade yesterday to the last beta.
Today when I cold boot the PC all works fine. Yesterday on the reboot
after the upgrade, the boot process fail because it can't mount the
external disk. In the next days I will make more test and I can give you
more information.

I have been running nvidia-settings. Once it executes, the problem is
fixed without me doing anything in the program.
I think this is more of a workaround to solve the problem when it
happens - ie. it doesn't actually prevent the problem from happening.

I can confirm this problem with Ubuntu 9.10. It should at least check
the disk space required to import everything and check if it can fit in
the new home partition. for a newbie it would be very difficult to
recognize this problem and fix it.
