The official Ubuntu Netbook Remix ISO image seems corrupted. It doesn't
work with usb-creator (which is extremely annoying as it is supposed to
be the official way to install it) bceause isoinfo says it is corrupted;
file-roller cannot fully extract it as well.

I found out the problem. In my case, there was a local entry in
/etc/group that was shadowing the LDAP group used by NFS. So pulseaudio
was chowning the directory to gid 530 (correct ldap entry) but when
reading back through stat, it was seeing the directory gid as 1000
(local /etc/group entry).

This is not correct. Upstream reports that this bug is fixed only for
images, because Nautilus has an internal fast-path for images. This
Ubuntu report, instead, is about thumbnails (as generated by
thumbnailers). For thumbnails, the bug is not fixed.

I noticed that, immediately after booting the computer, ath_pci
(madwifi) works correctly, but then it starts degrading in performance
(both latency and bandwidth) and in a few minutes it's back to a

FWIW, I downloaded Ubuntu's reiserfsprogs source (apt-get source
reiserfsprogs), applied the patch above, compiled it (./configure &&
make) and manually installed reiserfsck (sudo cp fsck/reiserfsck
/sbin/). Then I rebooted and the 10 seconds of delay were gone: my boot
is now 10 seconds faster.

I have exactly the same problem. I don't attach my bootchart because it
does not offer any further evidence over Thomas'. The only difference
here is that I have 2 reiserfs partitions so I'm wasting a whopping 10
seconds during my boot...

Ubuntu 8.10 64bit. For some reason, the update didn't come through

I just tried system-config-samba and I didn't like it. It is basically a full
dup of what already is present in Ubuntu:
- The share list is a dupe of Administration / Shared Folders. That's whe
