I can confirm that the conf changes was not needed, it works now with a
stock alsa-base.conf.
A new thing after the alsa update, not depending on the alsa-base changes, is
that my Speaker volume is zero after each boot. Changing it in alsamixer does
not preserve the setting over boots. But this
With the latest kernel update + audio team alsa snapshot this problem is
gone.
I also added the extra lines to alsa-base.conf from Bug #617647. Not
100% if they are needed or not.

Headphones does not cut main speakers. Sound from both at the same time.
Have tried different model loading options for my ALC888, nothing seems to help.
installed latest linux-alsa-driver-modules- for my kernel, gave me no sound at
all. (Removed before this err report)
