As commented by OzzyFrank, I get the same error after upgrading to Ubuntu
12.10, eject command worked for years for me.
(The eject command is a must for me in ubuntu, as the hardware button does not
work properly (Acer Aspire 5810T)
Similar error after umount an external usb drive, having 3 of them and an SD
card.
This is the first time I can see the log and copy it (the crash just affected
the nautilus window); since Natty upgrade I have experienced several crashes
but with just a text screen with no option but reboot.
Same error message after the maverick - natty udpate (I came here googling
it), but now it works for me:
I removed the PDF printer, trying to add it again, when I realized it was
imposible: cups-pdf package had dissapeared with the update (I swear it was
installed before the update)
Solution

I can reproduce your phenomenon. The 640x480 also can normally display.
When I setup to 832x624, it will occur a 4cm black margin on the left of the
screen. So I think the mainly reason is the difference between screen panel.

At least in my case It is not a chipset bug: it ALWAYS works in karmic, it
NEVER works in lucid (same disk, same computer, same cable)
