I just re-installed a clean Xubuntu 12.04 LTS and can confirm that both
Speakers and Headphones outputs work out of the box. It isn't able
to automatically switch between Speakers and Headphones, but switching
manually from Xubuntu's Volume Control app works.

I can also confirm this. I have a USB3.0 WD MyBook 1.0 TB and if the
drive is connected to USB 3.0 when booting, I get loads of these

directories of the distro. On Ubuntu these happen to include

server is Hardy. Getting exactly the same error when trying to play
stuff with totem (or totem mozilla plugin) when the network sink is
active. Mplayer, Xine and flashplugin all are nicely able to talk to the
pulse network sink
Ok, also totem-xine fails to work. Only working way for me to use the
pa-network-sink when playing media files (mp3, mpg, etc.) in Firefox is
currently the mplayer plugin for Firefox.

I'm pretty sure it's a text file, since it is a sample input of a
certain programming exercise. When I open it, it looks like those
letters f and g overlaps themselves. As I said, OpenOffice.org 2.4.1 can
open it as well as vi.

The problem you were seeing could just be a problem with ZynAddSubFX
which doesn't really work that well with jack. It's jack connection
pretty often get's zombified and it just doesn't produce any sound
anymore. Of course in that case triggering notes using Zyn's own virtual
keyboard also fails
Do you get anything else on the logs before that error? And have you
tried to turn on debugging to see what's possibly causing the crash?

Seems like the newest version of specimen 0.5.2rc3 is now synced from
debian to Ubuntu. So at least part of this bug is completed :). I heard
from some people involved with specimen that the LASH support is partly
broken in 0.5.2rc3. So maybe a patch is needed after all. I'll test the
new version

This is a problem with the jack driver in zynaddsubfx. It also seems
to loose jack connection on the first occuring xrun and after that also
jack (in addition to zyn) has to be restarted before getting any sound
from zynaddsubfx again. This is a known problem in zynaddsubfx but there

zynjacku is JACK based, GTK (2.x) host for LV2 synths. It has one JACK
MIDI input port (routed to all hosted synths) and one (two for stereo
synths) JACK audio output port per plugin. Such design provides multi-
timbral sound by running several synth plugins.
