Don't give up completely Glitch, rt61 did work on Ubuntu 7.10 with Wicd
network manager. That's what I'm using now.

Actually, installing linux-backports-modules didn't fix the problem, I
still get freezes, and only when the wireless is enabled through the
network manager applet.

Gutsy Beta Live CD still gave me the blank black screen, but when I chose safe
graphics mode, it didn't, and it installed alright. I can now boot to Gutsy and
log in on GNOME correctly, it seems to me.

OK, thanks, I actually did see that bug before reporting this one. My
case differs from his/hers in that I'm running the live CD, not
upgrading. Glad I could help. Should I download Gutsy beta and try that,
or

I had a similar problem. After trying again and again and again,it
eventually worked. Now with Ubuntu Feisty installed, it only sometimes
gives me that error. However, it usually takes about 15 minutes before
it happens again, if I'm in the terminal, I can see the BUG error, and

I also get the same error, sometimes but not always, on boot. My
computer also freezes up every once in a while. I'm running Ubuntu
Feisty, fully updated, my kernel is 2.6.20-16-generic. I have a wireless
card (ATI RT61) which I have managed to get working through editing
/etc/network/interfaces.
