UPDATE: another fail
a quick look round the net For 'PCITAG' reveals it might be in these:
x11proto-xf86bigfont-dev - X11 Big Fonts extension wire protocol
x11proto-xf86dga-dev - X11 Direct Graphics Access extension wire protocol
x11proto-xf86dri-dev - X11 DRI extension wire protocol
Stupidly my kernel headers package was not downloaded. PCITAG has a
kernel library feel. (im a python dev) installing the headers.. which i
should do anyway if im rolling my own debs.
UPDATE: this experiment failed. the headers did not allow me to compile
this module. see below for kernel log.

i pkilled steam, and clicked the unity dash, its instantly frozen the
computer. about 2 weeks ago, the best i could wish for was a snappy
recovery!

im not sure if its my configuration to blame, or the new create file mode is
undocumented, but both open and os.open wont create files.. ive checked
permisions, and everything seams good.
worst of all, a stability downgrade isnt possible by using the ubuntu trusty
repo's
Nice one! thanks! im still trying to figure out how to make an isometric
view engine from scratch. im a threads and procedural kinda guy, but i know

its just my hunch of what i think has gone wrong. pulse also isnt detected the
camera's mic.. skype also doesnt detect a webcam.
i may post this to the utopic package maintainer as well.
further experimentation reveals that the cause maybe insufficient power
in my usb hub.
Confirmed... insufficiant power in the usb hub, despite the webcam being
the only device using it.
please mark as solved and add this to your debugging checklist.
low priority further action:
contact the usb host kernel module maintainer and ask them to give us a
few more milliamp's if
