Ubuntu Feisty Fawn Desktop CD
Upon attempting to install Feisty from a Desktop CD, I noticed that my
main hard drive that Edgy and Windows were installed onto successfully,
was represented as /dev/sda. I believe sd* means it is (detected as) a
SATA drive, while hd* means it
As I said at the bottom of my post, the installation seemed to go fine,
but it would not boot up due to a Grub error (error 17), making the
system unusable.

Would you be able to post your /usr/bin/serpentine file?
To do so, just run:
$ sudo gedit /usr/bin/serpentine
and either copy and paste it into a post or save it to your desktop (or
somewhere that you can find it easily) and attach it (proffered).
