Scott, you were probably right and everything works fine after deleting
the modules from /etc/modules and rebooting the computer. Still, I guess
the problem did exist, but propper updates have been released and so you
can reject the bug in peace...

and so it's not wise to think that upgrading to it is a wonderful

Today I discovered something new. The combination which causes the
beeping is: enabled speedsteping + 2.6.22-14-generic kernel. If I
disable the speedsteping, generic kernel works fine.

On Ubuntu Hardy (actually on all Ubuntus) /var/run/ is purged at each boot.
Samhain uses "/var/run/samhain/samhain.pid", and if the directory
"/var/run/samhain/" does not exist, samhain doesn't start and outputs this in
logfile :

I am having the same problem when using THE GENERIC KERNEL. CPU is intel core2
duo T2300E. Loading the p4-clockmod module (by running sudo modprobe
p4-clockmod in terminal) didn't work for me: I got an error message similar to
the one which occurs when trying to load the speedstep module.
