I can confirm this
- Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy
- nvidia-glx driver in use
- NVIDIA 8500 GT
- 2 GB RAM
- Intel Core 2 Duo processor
Come to think of it, almost identical to OP's setup, except I *am* using
compiz. Doesn't seem to be related.
IOddly I have the exact same unexplained freezing behavior
Happens to me too:
Video: Intel 945GM
Compiz: tested both with and without.
I'm glad I do most of my image manipulation with the Python Imaging
Library these days, since this is maddening enough with my light usage.
The (blank) window does still respond to events, so it's possible to
(blindly)
Update: happens on my desktop (nVidia 8500) also, with and without
compiz
