This may have occurred on an old laptop. I'll need to check and see if I

Is there no way to tell from the log files what package is conflicting with
the upgrade? It might be one of the Google packages. For a while, I had
the daily build of Chrome enabled, but if that's not it I'd hope there
should be a way to get to it through the log files.

I tried to remove the package with "ppa-purge ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa" but it

yes, x-swat was active. I was trying to get my nvidia to work again. I
don't think x-swat is active anymore. I was able to resolve it by
downloading and installing the proprietary nVidea driver.
I'm not at home now so I can't double-check.

Thanks. I finally got the proprietary driver from Nvidia to install and
it's working so I'll leave well enough alone and hope that they fix the
problem in the next Ubuntu release (11.4) so I can go back to the distro
package.

FWIW, I'm also using the HP Lasaerjet 4 Plus Foomatic/ljet4, and it
works like a champ. I can put up with a slight decrease in quality if
it works every time.
