from gtk3
Xubuntu and Lubuntu ship abiword by default. We (Xubuntu) noticed that
someone synced abiword 2.9 from Debian testing, but nobody had time to
follow up, and it ended more or less like if no important bug is
reported, then this version is ok. No idea for Lubuntu, Julien may
know. And unfortunately,

Yes, that's because it was previously packaged as 'greybird', which is a
(small) mistake (should be 'Greybird'). greybird is a symlink to Greybird so
people using the old one don't lose their theme.
But we'll drop it after precise.

AFAIK, ubuntu patched gtk3 to fallback to GNOME instead of hicolor, so
even if the icon was present it wouldn't be used...

Were you using an unofficial package or something, and then upgraded to the
official one?
I'm not able to reproduce on precise. There's no code in lightdm-gtk-greeter to
register itself as a display manager, because as you wrote, of course it isn't
one. ;-)

Yep, there are bad interactions sometimes with xfce4-session. That's why
we disable session saving in Xubuntu by default to try to workaround
that.
