I've been trying various of the /proc/acpi/ibm/fan commands, but find that none of them have any affect on the fan speed, except disable, which reports it as being zero, but doesn't the laptop seem otherwise unaffected. Disengaged mode also makes no difference. Might this be a confusion between

I've just tested Ubuntu 9.04; I'm using Thinkpad T60p; Kernel 2.6.28-11; I tried: git clone git://git.savannah.gnu.org/emacs.git which downloads the latest emacs: computing the deltas is rather CPU intensive, which makes it a rather good test. The fan speed never got above 3800; CPU's got to 98
