The problem is that symbolic link is shipped with libgl1-mesa-dev
package which is not installed by default. As a workaround, you could

Thanks for confirming. I agree this should be addressed better, but I
have found no easy way to do it for gutsy. This is duplicate of bug

Since your HW does not support 3D, OpenGL will be slugish at least,
therefore making Image Viewer unusable. It probably make sense to submit
bug upstream (bugs.kde.org) in order to at least more gracefully handle
such case.

I think the proposed quirk solution for buggy EDID as described in FD
bug 10304 is more appropriate - it just need to be extended to cover
also this particular buggy HW.

I have just tested the proposed packages on HP nw8240 with ATI FireGL
V5000 (PCIE) with 15.4" (310x210mm), 1920x1200 panel. As expected, this
workaround causes that DPI is hardcoded to 96 - xdpyinfo diff:
