This morning I was able to upgrade to 14.10, but can't say what the bug was as

mouse cursor. I can Alt-tab to other programs with no problems. I press

Setting the environment variable PULSE_PROP=media.role=phone worked,
partially. The microphone was redirected to the bluetooth headset, but
audio output remained with the internal sound card. This was true for
both Sametime and Skype -- since both behave identically, I suspect
Pulse.

I can confirm that I can reproduce this at will. The problem is with a
battery that used to be reported as "low capacity, possibly broken". If
the battery is in the laptop, Ubuntu will not boot. If the battery is
removed, and Ubuntu booted, then the battery is installed, the crash
reported occur
I should note that the system to which I moved the disk is physically
identical to the other... down to sequential serial numbers.

Ok... as of today's patch, I can confirm that I can now add my twitter
account and if the permissions on /dev/shm are modified, everything
updates properly.

The same happens with me, though my logs are more innocuous. It appears
that on the first refresh after startup, the gwibber service starts to
consume 100% of one of my CPUs.
My log has a facebook failure when the CPU consumption starts:

can't add the twitter account. It simply won't add and there is nothing

I undid the suggested change, since it didn't seem to help. I'm still
getting the bogged-down-desktop issue, but /var/log/messages is
different now.

You missed the second part of the original report, which also affects
me. That is, perfectly valid entires in fstab are hanging up with this
problem and mount without issue in recovery mode. In my case, I have a
second disk (EXT4 on LVM on LUKS) which mounts to /backup. The LUKS
crypt is unlocke
Possibly, but I note two significant differences:
1) I get thousands of suppressed messages, not tens.
2) The system does not return to normal if I discontinue use of the audio
device.

Did as directed. No luck. Same issues after 5 minutes or so of playing
videos in Firefox. If it is a driver bug, it's new in Lucid... this HW
worked perfectly with Karmic. Is there any more info I can provide?
