I downloaded the desktop iso via bitorrent to upgrade my up-to-date
12.04.1 setup to 12.10.
I explained the process here : http://askubuntu.com/q/202694/7567
Basically, I did the following :
- booted on ubuntu-12.10-desktop-amd64.iso
- launched the installer (double click
Thanks for the clarification.
Concerning the internet connection :
- the laptop was connected to the internet
- at this step:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/GraphicalInstall#Preparing_to_install_Ubuntu
I did *not* check the download updates while installing
- I selected upgrade from 12.04 to
FWIW, ubiquity complains a lot about setting locale failed and not fully
installed package if that matters.

Some additional context :
Thing is: I'm using Ubuntu since 2007 and almost always used the
alternate install downloaded via bitorrent when doing a release upgrade.
Seems like this time there's no alternate install, only a desktop iso
but seeing that booting it offered me to upgrade, my natural
Ubuntu 11.10 and still annoying me...

Attempting to run a 32 bit opengl program falls back to software emulation.
I've tried that with Google-earth, Unreal Tournament and a small OpenGL demo.
I'm using the Ubuntu 11.10, 3.1.1 kernel and xorg-edgers ppa (2011-11-18 git

- download freeglut3_2.6.0-1ubuntu2_i386.deb at

- extract libglut.so.3 and libglut.so.3.9.0 to /usr/lib32 (or

Yes, i put libdrm because i was asked for the version on freedesktop.org.
As i said, those 32bit applications run succesfully when running
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/i386 application_name.
The graphic stack comes from the xorg-edgers ppa, other packages are standard
ubuntu 11.10.

Honestly, i don't know if libdrm is involved at all, maybe should we
change the bug package name if it's misleading.

Ok, thanks for the update. In fact i noticed that i have both old and
new versions of those libraries whith ia32-libs and xorg-edgers and
assumed the system got confused at some point ! Also wasn't aware of
this multiarch stuff, still learning every day ^^

The bug still happens in 11.04. I got the following lines in dmesg :

Thanks for the info. I'll stick with the 3.0 kernel (rc6 now) and intel
git20110624 for the moment, unless i find a better combination of
kernel/drivers versions.
As for virtualbox, make sure you have installed the latest version of
module-init-tools (cf. my previous link).

I was also affected by the SNA activation. Same config for me: 11.04 64bit +
xorg-edgers ppa + 2.6.39-3 kernel.
I wouldn't say the system was unresponsive but that the display wasn't properly
refreshed. ie. typing something in the terminal wasn't slow, it was waiting for

I was also affected by this bug after a reboot under 11.04.
Fix #22 did not solved the problem.
Fix #47 solved it.

Hi, i have the exact same drive. I spent a lot of time investigating how AF is

I can say that a stock install of ubuntu 11.04 doesn't correctly

Ho, and before upgrading from 10.04 to 10.10, I had the exact same
behaviour : an infinite loop of starting file manager filling up the
task bar. I think the crash is handled differently but the bug remains.

The issue was solved by disabling Xinerama in the xorg.conf file. Not a
