i can see that when installed on the netbook kubuntu correctly chooses
plasma-netbook interface instead of plasma-desktop.
Please also after this detection make akonadi use sqlite as a backend
instead of mysql, in order to save RAM and CPU resources on netbooks.

While autohiding in upstream is justified with screen space saving, in
Kubuntu we have appmenu widget that allows us to save screen space in
another way - by not having a menubar (in button form factor).
To sum up, the panel contains appmenu button, clock, current keyboard
layout and
(just to be clear) i suggested to disable autohide by default (i.e.
change KDE defaults).

1. it contained no app menu widget, so i had to find it and enable 'button form
factor'.

after enabling PAE/NX in the virtualbox settings)
