This is the error message I got when attempting to open OpenPGP in Thunderbird
(out of curiosity). Can't help but think they are related...
Error - encryption command failed
/usr/bin/gpg --charset uft 8 --batch --notty --status-fd2 --with fingerprint
--fixed list-mode --with colons --list-key

FYI: I've also attempted to fix problems myself through downloading a
lot of (probably unnecessary to me) gnupg related packages via synaptic
before finding my way here.
