The fix below worked, but the bug has returned: after the most recent
kernel update (I think) I no longer have sound through my line-out jack.
Uname -r returns: 2.6.35-31-generic-pae, but I see in the Synaptic
Package Manager that only up to 2.6.35-30 is listed for driver modules.

I *had* sound through internal speakers, but audio-out jack wasn't working.
Tried to install ALSA drivers using instructions and script here:
