I am not sure what has happened with my Ideapad 5-14ARE05 laptop, but it
just seems that this problem has disappeared. I assume some update fixed
it finally.
I running 5.11.0-34-generic #36~20.04.1-Ubuntu

Regarding my previous post what happened is that the touchpad started to
work again out of the blue. Before this the system had difficulties to
shutdown. The shutdwown process lasted for minutes and during that the
system displayed a message "i2c_designware AMDI0010:00: controller times
out". This

Thanks for the instructions. So I added the line
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash pci=nocrs" and updated grub. I
rebooted the machine at least five times and the touchpad never worked -
I had to use an external mouse. This is a bit different in a sense that
this seems to be consistent
So glad someone is on to this. I would like to help in testing, but I
have very little knowledge in this area. I am running Lenovo Ideapad 5

As an example regarding 3/4 where exactly should I add the "pci=nocrs"
or regarding 4/4 what should I
Hi, I have just run into the same random touchpad problem as others with
my Lenovo Ideapad 5 14are05 running on Ubuntu 20.04 with kernel
5.8.0-50-generic.
I would like to ask what is the status with this issue?

I looked into this update earlier, but I don't have the skills to
update as the bios update is an exe file that needs windows. I will look

I tried to install the 3.9 kernel several times without success. Running
the dpkg ended up in an error. I however tried to boot to the new kernel
that was displayed in the boot options, but it failed to boot:

I think I solved my issue. The solution turned out to be the removal of
the fglrx driver. After uninstalling the driver two days ago both temp1
and temp2 temperatures are nearly the same as before suspending and no
more fans at full speed after resume. Silence... at last.

Thanks, but I have tried this and some variants on this thread.
It seems to me that the cur_status of cooling_device0 just does not
change. Every other one has status 0 and I can change them, but not the
zero one. I am not even sure it would affect the temp2 reading...

#86 Thanks. I thought just sudoing the command was enough.
Alas, still no luck in turning off the fan after suspend. I tried few
combinations of these commands:
echo -n 0 /sys/devices/virtual/thermal/cooling_device0/cur_state
echo -n 0
I have the same proble on my HP Envy 2090 and I can't get it fixed and
don't really know where to even start.
I have tried fiddling with the above (82, 83 and 84) tricks, but I get a file
permissions error:
petteri@ENVY14:~$ echo -n 1
/sys/devices/virtual/thermal/cooling_device0/cur_state
