Hi Andre
In order to access the sources list you should precede the path with the editor
of your choice.
Since your package installer is broken I suggest you use vi or nano. Nano is
easier to use where vi is
It's fine as explained in the bug report.
Although it probably needs to be archived to what do you do if dist
upgrade reorders your fstab.
Im's still strugling with dist upgrades though, another distribution
another set of problems.
Thanks for contacting me.

I just changed the Cache-Limit to 16777216 which is exactly double

worked fine. There is one problem with all this as more and more shiny
things appear in the lists its gona come back.

Well done. As you say It doubling probably is sufficient I just did it
that way because it required no thought (lazy). Well I can confirm it's
still working without any problems.

I think I have the same sort of problem. When I upgraded from 6.10 one of my
disks went missing. There is only one device recognised on a SCSI bus (Sudo
SCSI) controller the other device is missing.

PS I confirm there were a lot of items in the sources list but trimming the

removing the contents of /var/lib/apt/lists/ changed the problem and revealed
the Cache-Limit error which was handled correctly.

Depends on how you look at it. Here is a plausible account of what might have
happened .
Apt-get update starts to update then runs out of Cache-Limit space which
corrupts some files in the lists folder.
Next time you run apt-get it goes bang with a core dump error.

I’m not blaming the upgrade. Something changed which messed up the file
system. Fsck has always been the weapon of choice for repairing my
windows, Linux and FreeBSD partitions. This machine is scheduled for a
rebuild (New mother board CPU ram etc) any logs you need now’s the
time as I will be go
Any ideas then?

I did a dist upgrade from Ubuntu 6.10 to 7.04 and got the following error on
reboot.
fsck exited with status 8 (/dev/hda2). Though nothing of it and ran fsck which
then cleaned and repaired the file system and carried on until the system
