How should I debug the KMS issue?
I tried running Opensuse 12.3 and it ran successfully (although only on legacy
(BIOS) mode). Would this help in someway?

I've been trying unsuccessfully to install Ubuntu on my new laptop for
about 3 months now.
When I try to boot Ubuntu (both UEFI and BIOS -legacy- modes) it always
stays on a black screen.
Booting with nomodeset option allows me to get to console pressing
