SSH or SFTP), the terminal appears all right, but it crashes as soon as

This was resolved by moving my ~/.kde out of the way. Probably the bug
should be closed, but maybe somebody wants to pursue it as an upgrade
bug. This was a "fresh install" of Intrepid, but I still had my ~/.kde
from Gutsy.

fine. I just did a fresh install of Intrepid, and reading from LDAP
still works (I can see and use my contacts) but if I try to save a
change or a new contact, it hangs. If I

It's impossible to trust what is stated in Konsole, it's almost
impossible to use Konsole, because you have to make sure that text in
there is current all the time. Big showstopper.

upgrade issue. My system was running hardy with kde4 from ppa. The error

But if it works for you, it's probably an upgrade issue, my computer was

My findings so far when upgrading a couple of servers.
*When localedef takes 100% cpu it's not possible to kill it.
*killall locale-gen makes the upgrade continue for awhile but get stuck when
one package tries to do a ps, which will also hang.
*Poweroff and then start with Gutsy kernel doesn't w
Will on -server kernel it's not that simple, since it's not possible
kill the localedef and gzip process. And a "ps" when localedef is stuck
also hangs ps and since many of the following updates uses ps, they will
also get stuck.
The only way around the problem I can think of is to remove
/var/li
Fixing the crached 2.6.24-19 kernel and rebooting to this kernel then
doing a dpk-reconfigure locles works.
So the problem looks to be to generate the locles when running with the
gutsy kernel. Strange.

I just had the update complete without a problem on a server with an
attached iSCSI SAN - the same SAN as the one I had the failure on, so
maybe (in my case) it's a problem of having two machines attached to the
same storage device... or maybe it's unrelated.

Installed alsa-driver 1.0.15rc1 on the machine, and the sound works OK
with this version. So please update Ubuntu before launch of Gutsy.

Yes, Gianfranco, it's exactly the same Debian Etch patch I put in the
bug report. However I'm not that convinced it's a hal related (or hal
only) issue, since as I said on Xubuntu 7.04 this bug doesn't exist (on
the same hardware of course).
I think will stick with Etch for the moment, until some
