Exact same problem. Locales fails to generate after upgrade from
Feisty->Gutsy->Hardy.
localedef takes 100%cpu, localedefs also seams to spawn a gzip process
which is defunct. Not possible to kill either localdef or gzip.
Rebooting to the same old kernel doesn't fix the problem. Haven't tried
the
Fixing the crached 2.6.24-19 kernel and rebooting to this kernel then
doing a dpk-reconfigure locles works.
So the problem looks to be to generate the locles when running with the
gutsy kernel. Strange.

It's impossible to trust what is stated in Konsole, it's almost
impossible to use Konsole, because you have to make sure that text in
there is current all the time. Big showstopper.

But if it works for you, it's probably an upgrade issue, my computer was
upgraded from hardy->intrepid. And I have other problems with other
kioslaves like trash:/. And then it's most definitely not a bug in the
lovely lancelot.
I might also add that this machine was upgraded from hardy->intrepid. on
hardy -kde4 packages was installed.

Same problem on the same hardware. Sound stopped working with
2.6.22-10.30, was working before. Machine upgraded from feisty.

with this version. So please update Ubuntu before launch of Gutsy.
