This bug was not an issue for me, it occurred when I upgraded online
from 8.04 to 10.04 and was asked to file a bug. I did not follow it up
but now I find that Rhythmbox is installed and working normally on
10.04. When I checked in 10.10 (Maverick) Rhythmbox was not installed so

connect to my wireless network when I boot with the latest 2.6.35-xx-generic

Update on progress I have recently made in overcoming this problem. I can now
boot up to the GUI desktop!
How did I achieve this? I decided to remove the hardware driver, NVIDIA
accelerated graphics driver (version current) which I had inherited from
10.04.1 when I upgraded to 10.10. I was then

Booting with quiet splash deleted the messages move too quickly up the screen
for me to read. When they stop I do not know how to copy and save what is on
the screen. I thought all the files produced by apport and attached to the

In Ubuntu select System Administration Synaptic Package Manager.
Using Quick Search find ubuntu-restricted-extras and select for
installation choosing to install all the recommended packages.
Using Quick Search find gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad and select for
installation choosing

ubuntu-restricted-extras was installed but gstreamer-plugins-bad was
not. Following the installation of gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad and the
other packages recommended by Synaptic the DVD now plays as expected.

This happened to me when I attempted to activate NVIDIA 96 driver in Lucid
Alpha2.

I am only aware of one type of DVD, ie. DVD video. I get the same result with
various DVD's from my collection.
libdvdread4 is installed.
I get the same result with Karmic on a different box.
I forgot to include that I am not getting any sound when th DVD runs.

By mucked up I meant poor quality.
I decided to do a re-install of 8.10 and then upgrade to 9.04. During
set up of 8.10 I was surprised that this time round Ubuntu installed
gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad in place of gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg as it had
done previously and
